Sreenidhi International School Students Advocate for Cleaner Roads at Ozone Run 2024

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India] September 24: In a significant show of civic responsibility, the students and staff of Sreenidhi International School presented a petition advocating for improved road hygiene and cleanliness during the Ozone Run 2024. This initiative, part of the school’s commitment to environmental stewardship, underscores the urgent need for better sanitation practices in Hyderabad.

The petition, supported by over 900 students, addresses pressing concerns regarding the hygiene and cleanliness of roads and footpaths near the school and the surrounding KMRF Village. It highlights the hazardous conditions created by overflowing waste and unmanaged landfills, which negatively impact both local residents and students. The ongoing exposure to toxins poses serious health risks, undermining the overall well-being of the community.

In their petition, the students expressed gratitude to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for its efforts to improve living conditions but emphasized the necessity for routine cleanups—either weekly or bi-weekly—to tackle the persistent sanitation issues. They called for strict enforcement of waste disposal protocols to prioritize public health and safety.

“The health and safety of our students and the community are paramount,” said Malcolm Nicolson, Principal of Sreenidhi International School. “We believe that, with the continued support of the GHMC, these issues can be effectively addressed, ensuring a cleaner and healthier environment for all, particularly for future generations.”

The presentation accompanying the petition outlines specific concerns and proposed solutions, demonstrating the students’ commitment to active participation in supporting GHMC initiatives. They are eager to collaborate with local authorities to organize clean-up drives and raise awareness about proper waste management.
