Abhaya School Advocates for Cleaner Hyderabad at Ozone Run 2024

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India] September 24: In a remarkable show of commitment to environmental sustainability, Abhaya School participated in the Ozone Run 2024, where students and staff signed a petition calling for urgent improvements in road hygiene and cleanliness across Hyderabad. This initiative underscores the school’s dedication to fostering responsible citizenship and a healthier community for all.

The Ozone Run, held at Gachibowli Stadium, attracted more than 1,000 participants, including families, educators, and prominent local leaders, all rallying for a common cause. Representing 450 enthusiastic students, Abhaya School’s petition highlighted pressing sanitation issues such as rampant waste dumping, inadequate trash clearance, and safety concerns posed by stray dogs near waste sites. Principal Ameer Khan remarked, “Our students are not just learners; they are active participants in their community. By addressing these hygiene issues, we can create a safer environment for everyone, especially for future generations.”

The event transformed from a simple race into a powerful platform for environmental advocacy. Dignitaries such as Shri Jagadeeswar Goud, MLA contestant from Serilingampally, and Mr. Gareth Wynn Owen, British Deputy High Commissioner, graced the occasion, reinforcing the message that community action is essential in tackling pressing environmental challenges. Founders of the Ozone Run, Ms. Bilvoa Vunnam and Ms. Teerdha Vunnam, inspired attendees with their vision of a sustainable future, emphasizing the impact of collective efforts in promoting eco-friendly practices.

The Ozone Run’s success was bolstered by the generous support of local sponsors, who ensured that participants received high-quality materials and hydration, enriching the overall experience. Informative booths and engaging activities offered insights into environmental best practices and the importance of maintaining clean public spaces.

Abhaya School’s petition reflects a proactive approach to environmental stewardship, emphasizing the need for ongoing collaboration with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to address these critical sanitation concerns. Enclosed with the petition is a comprehensive presentation outlining specific issues and actionable solutions, demonstrating the school’s commitment to working alongside local authorities. Principal Khan expressed hope for constructive dialogue, stating, “We are eager to partner with the GHMC to create a cleaner, healthier Hyderabad for all residents.”

The Ozone Run 2024 serves as a powerful reminder of our shared responsibility to protect the environment. Initiatives like this not only empower students to advocate for meaningful change but also inspire the entire community to engage in sustainable practices.
